Lower Largo the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk
Alexander Selkirk was born in Lower Largo in 1676. He was a local man whose bad behaviour and antics resulted in his eventual abandonment on a desert island. Selkirk's story and experiences were the inspiration behind the character 'Robinson Crusoe' created by the famous author Daniel Defoe in his book entitled 'The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe'.
